Beaches are great places to look for rocks as the cliffs are exposed and free from plants. Fresh lava plains are good too, but don’t walk on them! As they are most likely still molten underneath the cooled top.

Poisonous rocks – great question! There are lots of poisonous rocks and minerals. The most poisonous mineral is Cinnabar – which releases pure mercury and can kill!

Asbestos is probably the most heard of poisonous rock as it used to be used in construction but it is found naturally. We cannot use asbestos in buildings anymore as it was found that tiny, fibrous crystals become airborne get into people’s lungs. If asbestos is found, specialists with lots of protective clothing have to come and remove it. Even so more than 4000 die from asbestos poisoning each year and the number is rising.
