I don’t know much about this either. Beaches are quite a good place to find fossils because the sea eats away at the cliffs and exposes anything hidden inside the rock. I’m afraid I can’t be more specific than that though!
There are some great outcrops of Jurassic rocks in Devon, and those are full of ammonites, belemnites etc. If you go there, check the tides, and wear a hardhat. And, best fossils can be found in spring, after frost cracking has broken off new parts of the cliffs.
