I’m open to making almost anything! I love playing around with electronics and designing printed circuit boards, as well as developing stuff in LabView
At the moment I am looking at the possibility of developing a remote control submarine for doing acoustic inspection on stuff deep under water, as well as designing a processing unit for rapidly analysing acoustic waveforms, both will be a lot of work, but a lot of fun as well!
I use two types of equipment which could be considered dangerous, pressurised gasses, and high voltage electricity
of the two I would say pressurised gases are the most dangerous, they can cause significant injury if they depressurise quickly or enter the body (through the mouth, nose, bellybutton or elsewhere) some of them are also dangerous by themselves (Carbon dioxide will knock you out very quickly if you breathe it in)
as a consequence we have extensive health and safety regulations when using gases, training on the kit, wearing protective kit like gloves and goggles, and never working alone with gases!

simon, what is the most dangerous equipmet you have used in your work as a scientist?
