Publishing my first scientific paper. Papers are reports of cutting-edge scientific research and they are what most scientists build their reputations on. I was lucky to be able to publish one in the first year of my PhD. Looking back now I would have done it a bit differently though. I’m a better scientist now than I was then!

I was very proud when I took my recent findings and presented them at a big big Earth Science’s conference earlier this year. There were a lot of experts in my field at the conference so I was nervous but was very happy that they all ended up asking me questions about my research!
I was also really proud that I got asked to sit on a discussion panel at the same conference to talk about how I think social media (facebook, twitter and blogs) can be used by scientist to discuss their research.

I was extremely proud when after three years of really hard work, I finally received my PhD certificate 🙂 And probably when I published my first manuscript in a scientific journal.

Being nominated for a chairman’s award from BaE systems after successfully demonstrating our technology in several field trials!

lots of work went into the instrumentation and it was a real team effort, we were exhausted afterwards but had such a great feeling!
