0 Question: What came first the chicken or the egg? Keywords: philosophy Asked by stargazer to Angus, Christian, Hannah, Laura, Simon on 20 Jun 2013. This question was also asked by frank18.
Simon Holyoake answered on 20 Jun 2013:
The egg, simple as that!
evolutionary biology tells us that chickens evolved from chicken-like ancestors, one of those laid an egg one day, and out hatched a chicken!
Angus Ferraro answered on 20 Jun 2013:
As Simon says, something very much like a chicken laid an egg. DNA mutates during reproduction, so the not-chicken egg hatches into an actual chicken!
Hannah Bentham answered on 20 Jun 2013:
If we are talking about a chicken as we know today, then yes, the egg.
If we can extend the term chicken to chicken-ancestors then I think we can argue it either way!
It’s still a great saying though. 🙂
Laura Roberts Artal answered on 20 Jun 2013:
I agree with the other scientist :)!
