I don’t think I’m quite good enough to be a professional writer! Also, I think I might like writing less if I had to do it every day, all the time, to make money. I chose science because I enjoyed doing it and, to be honest, because I thought I could get a more secure job that way.

I still do some writing though. Not so much creative writing any more, but I do have a blog (angusferraro.wordpress.com) where I write about science. It’s really fun to try to explain complicated science as simply as possible!

Perhaps if I had worked at it I could have gone into writing instead. Of course, I could still change my mind and switch! It’s probably easier to start out in science and switch to writing than to start out in writing and switch to science, because you need more qualifications to be a professional scientist.
