As Simon says, the laws can’t be defied. If they’ve been defied, they’re not laws. Although sometimes when I see how much PhD students can eat at an all-you-can-eat buffet I think some kind of law must have been broken…
I guess I agree with the other guys. But as scientists, we might actually be a little bit biased when it comes to explaining things that are strictly speaking unexplainable. Simply because we are so convinced that everything has to follow the laws of physics, we might actually be blind to alternative explanations sometimes.
I think if something genuinely broke the laws of physics as we understand them now, then we would redefine the laws to encompass this new phenomenon! it is happening all the time in cosmology when we observe behaviour which is unexpected or strange, we have to widen the laws of physics to fit new things in!
