I was really interested in how the Earth works. I wanted to know why and how volcanoes erupted and why earthquakes happened. Then I also realised that rocks tell you the story of their history, if you can put all the clues together like in a puzzle.
Plus, I got to be in the filed outdoors a lot and got to travel to some cool places too.So that was a big bonus!

Well, the Earth is pretty important to our lives! We depend on it for everything, and it’s important to understand how it works, so we can continue to use it to grow food and live on in the future.

I just really enjoyed my degree (geophysics). Lots of problem solving and using knowledge about how things move and form.

And love being outdoors on all the field trips 🙂

It all started when my parents took me to quarries in southern Germany to collect fossils and minerals. I found that absolutely fascinating, and my old rock collection is still blocking a lot of space in my parents’ attic 🙂 Then I studied Geology at the University of Heidelberg, did my PhD in Marine Geochemistry in Bremen, and suddenly I was an Earth Scientist 🙂

I took the job I have now as it seemed interesting and a big leap from the job I had at the time!

6 years later and I’m loving it! I’ve had to learn pretty much everything from scratch, but it’s been really worthwhile
