• Question: Why are we going to Mars? Shouldn't we clean up Earth first?

      I think we should do both!

      The study of mars is very important for our future, it may be a place which we can colonise in the future, making us very resilient to global catastrophe

      there is also a great deal of research going on which will benefit humanity indirectly, research into propulsion methods, new alloys, methods of producing high quantities of food in harsh conditions, and research into the effects of radiation on human physiology. There is a lot of study going on into how humans react psychologically when confined to small spaces with the same people, and also methods of reducing bone loss which may have applications in treating diseases such as osteoporosis

      I think we should also be making more of a concerted effort into reducing our environmental impact on earth and developing new clean technologies to power and provide for the future here

      there is certainly room for both!
