I spend quite a lot of my spare time doing some rather experimental cooking – which is almost like science. I also learn to dance – mainly ballroom and latin, but a bit of salsa too. I have a blog about science and PhD life which I try to write a post for about once a month.

Mostly, I like to spend time with my friends, my family and my dog, Skye. I really enjoy ending the day with a nice long walk in the park or in the country side with Skye.
To really switch off, I like to bake cakes and also read.
I try to travel also, as I enjoy discovering new places, people and new cultures.

I spend much of my time building lego with my son, he’s only 4 so much of what I waffle on about probably goes over his head, but I’m trying to teach him about science!

other than that I like to cook, read, play guitar and paint + play miniature wargames, I try to make sure I exercise every day too, it’s not fun, but when it helps you lose weight and stay healthy, it’s well worth it!

I surf, I guess that’s a bit scientific. You got to know when the waves are good (weather forecast), know when to catch a wave and how much paddling you need to do (speed = distance/time 🙂 )

But no, I don’t really think about it. Though I do watch a fair few documentaries and do lots of baking (chemistry!) 🙂

You got a point – being a scientist from the heart, it is sometimes hard to switch into a non-scientific mode. But I really like to cycle, do gymnastics, play football, cook, take walks through town (all of this together with my girlfriend).
